Cloch Point Battery

Published: 03 Apr 2018

The battery at Cloch Point was used during both wars for defending the boom over the River Clyde between the towns of Gourock and Dunoon.

The boom was used to prevent enemy u-boats being able to travel upriver. Cloch battery had watch points and gun positions ready to engage the enemy should the boom be breached. Cloch had counterparts located at Toward, Portkil and Fort Matilda.
