Anti Aircraft batteries made up a key aspect of the UK’s air defence during the 2nd World War. Today many of the former AA Batteries can still be seen in various states of repair.
The battery we visited in this video is located in Greenock on the west coast of Scotland. It was 4 emplacement battery with 2 magazines and a control room. The entire site has been subject to vandalism and graffiti. As a result of ongoing anti-social behaviour, the local council made the decision to erect fencing and gates on each of the structures to prevent access.
Whilst we can understand why this was done, it does prevent people who are genuinely interested in the history of the location from being able to properly access the buildings and structures.
