The Pencil Monument in Largs (North Ayrshire) is a pencil-shaped monument structure that was built to commemorate the battle of Largs.

The monument itself was constructed in 1912 but the battle occurred in 1263.

The Battle of Largs was a short-lived battle between the fleet of Norway and the Scottish army. The kind of Norway (Haakon Haakonsson) was attempting to retain control of the eastern islands of Scotland.

As Scotland attempted to regain control over the islands a large fleet of Norwegian vessels gathered in the Clyde. Some historians wonder if the battle was initiated by the Norwegian forces or if they were simply trying to recover vessels that were driven ashore at Largs due to stormy conditions.

The moment at Pencil Point was certainly built as a long-standing commemoration of the battle, although the battle itself took place closer to the town of Largs and not where the monument is erected.
