Toward Battery is located near the town of Dunoon in Scotland. It is located overlooking the River Clyde and was used during both world wars to oversee the boom defence that was in use between Gourock and Dunoon. The location is fairly remote and as a result, remains mostly free of vandalism and graffiti.
During wartime vessels that wished to pass upriver had to stop short of the Clyde boom and wait to be cleared for passage. The
battery at Toward was responsible for securing the anchorage point and ensuring no enemy ships or U-Boats were able to pass
upriver.
