Half-Time school in Paisley was constructed in 1887 by the Coats family.
The Coats family were a major player in the mill industry in Paisley. The School was built to enable the children who were working in the mills to receive an education. They would work half-time in the mill and half-time receiving their education.
The building is now a ruin although you can still see some stunning examples of architecture within the facades. The building was originally a school, although it did become a social club and laterally a nightclub. The building has been derelict and abandoned for several decades and is now in a ruinous state.
Permission was recently granted to demolish the building for redevelopment. Part of the conditions for demolition was that some of the decorative sections must be retained and used within any future building on the site.
